Here is an Amt Ertl classic 18 inch Enterprise accessorized to reflect the second pilot Starship.
Lunar Models accessory parts were used as were decals from Shane Johnson, Thomas Models and the Estes company. All the surface detail was sanded off including the windows, screens on the pylons and inboard recess' of the engine nacelles and the intercoolers. The bridge and lower planetary sensor domes were replaced with the after market parts. The hole at the forward bottom of the secondary hull was reinforced with Plastruct tubing to accommodate a metal rod from a planned base. Following the Lunar Models instructions sheets all other directions were adhered to with the exception of a few areas.
The base coat of the entire model was a Model Masters Gloss Gull Grey. It provided a good enough color hue and was advantages in that the decals would adhere tighter to the gloss surface. The other parts were painted as indicated and then the decals were applied with MicroSol decal setting solution. Afterwards, Testors Dulcote was applied for permanence and to reduce the high gloss sheen.
The original engine domes were cut off from their respective collars and replaced with after market translucent ruby red domes from another of their kits. This provided a somewhat energized look once the spikes were centered and the whole dome assembly glued in place.
A simple base was constructed using a clear half dome from a major craft store and a paper spindle from a major office supply store. Once drilled, centered and epoxied in place the whole base was sprayed Testors silver followed by an application of Dulcote.
This was a nice build up of this version of the classic Enterprise and one to add to this customer's collection. I can only imagine what a 22 inch 2nd pilot Enterprise would look like with DLM's accessory pieces. One day I would like to try it.
