This is the Jupiter 2 by Polar Lights and built the with the Ron Gross fusion core circuit for the model.
The Ron Gross circuit went quite well and I stuck to the Schematic to the "T". I bought some perforated circuit boards from Radio shack and fashioned one into the round board the same size as the inside circumference of the Reactor Disc. Then I bought the LEDs from an electronic surplus outlet and arranged them around the board evenly spaced and hard-wired each one to the circuit.
The LED chaser unit came out larger than I thought and had to be placed in the lower deck, this Is why I opted to not paint it or detail it. It is needed nevertheless to support the upper deck. The four "AA" batteries seem to last for several days before going out, I once left it on that long.
The circuit he provides uses a small pot for controlling the speed and I found this to be excellent as you can speed it up so fast that it appears to reverse direction. The most time consuming part though was the point-to-point wiring, very tedious(17 separate wires from circuit to LEDs.)
All the parts were about $14 total and it took 5 nights, several hours each, to finish it. It is a nice addition to the model and thanks go out to Ron Gross for the inspiration.
