I have recently completed a Lunar Models 16.5 " Jupiter 2. . I had to really push the limits of this model with some major additions and alterations. To bring it as close to the show as possible, I've illuminated the interior wall beams, freezing tube bases, elevator platform and ladder well. The landing gear wells are also brightly lit  (a really cool effect like the night scenes in "Visit To a Hostile Planet".  Extra steps have also been added to the landing gear , which is not retractable, but removable. Very thin Plates can then cover the wells for an "in-flight" effect..
    
The exterior has an open porthole, an LED chaser circuit for the fusion core with 8 lights lit at the same time, a dome chaser circuit, and a sound chip with the lift-off and landing sequence from "The Derelict". All electronics are controlled by small external switches.

The removable upper hull and one-piece full ceiling plate reveals an airlock hatch light, additional wires for the freezing tube valve units, and an extra ladder rung leading to the lower level. The scratch built elevator cage and interior color scheme came out great , they're real accurate to the show.
   
I'm very proud of this project, it cost a LOT of time and money,  but it is all meaningless since my childhood fantasy has finally been fulfilled
