In 1974, Aurora was looking to expand their line of kits. The Prehistoric Scenes had been very successful, and as part of that series, Aurora had produced a large 1/12 scale Tyranasaurus Rex. Just before Aurora shut down, they contemplated producing a 1/12 scale King Kong to battle the T-Rex. And of course, Kong would need his Fay Wray!
Dave Cockrum produced some artwork for this model in 1974, but little more was known about this figure until this prototype appeared with several others on Ebay in August 2001. These prototypes seen on this page come from the collection of Jim Makowski. Jim obtainted them from a toy designer who was part of Aurora at the time of the shut down.
