deltarockets.jpg

New Ware announces the release of two more Delta rockets in 1/144th scale.

The Delta 1900 rocket has nine strap-on boosters surrounding the first stage. Each strap-on is individually cast. New Ware provides decals for two launchers. Delta 1913 which carried Explorer 47, an Interplanetary Monitoring Platform (IMP) which investigated the earth’s magnetosphere. RC2, Star Trek, and Star Wars models Minimize
There have been a number of significant developments with regards to RC2 since the company announced that they were shutting down a number of their divisions to focus on more profitable product lines.

First, the company is changing its name to Learning Curve.   If you recall, back when Racing Champions purchased Playing Mantis, they also purchased Learning Curve.  Learning Curve produces infants and children's toys and apparently this is the most profitable part of the toy industry.   The company is now clearly focusing their business on this market.

Second, RC2/Learning Curve is currently liquidating much of their Star Trek and Star Wars inventory.   All of the Trek kits and most of the Star Wars line have been heavily discounted to retailers.   Don't be surprised if you see many of these kits popping up at discounters this summer.  The refit Enterprise, both NX-01 kits, and the two Enterprise ship sets are no longer available through RC2.  In the past, when RC2 has cleared out product like this it was because the licenses were expiring.

Finally, the company sales reps are telling retailers they will still continue to produce kits but no new tooling would be created.   That's not a significant change from the last couple years.  However, as late as December, the company was supposedly in negotiations on the Trek license and wanted to product more product including additional Trek diecasts in the Johnny Lighting line.  That will not be happening now.

It's not secret that RC2 has their model division for sale and are getting out of the model business.  They are apparently holding on to the Johnny Lightning brand.

It's not a bad thing that AMT is for sale.  The company has actually been bought and sold a number of times over the last 25 years.   RC2 did not really develop the Star Trek license after they purchased Polar Lights.    They did pursue the Star Wars license, but mostly they reissued old kits.   To their credit, they brought out models of the Jedi Starfighter, but those kits did not arrive until 6 months after the movie came out!   With any luck, whoever buys AMT/Polar Lights will realize what they have and actually re-release some of the good kits and pursue new ones.

Moebius Models news Minimize

jungleswamp.jpg  voyagerbox.JPG

Lots of news out of Moebius!

Dr. Jekyll as Mr. Hyde has experienced some production delays and is now expected to arrive in mid-May.   It should be here by Wonderfest.

Two more kits have been announced.   First will be a reissue of the Voyager kit this summer.  This ship was a based on the Fantastic Voyage cartoon from the late 60's.   This kit is pretty rare and highly sought by Aurora collectors.    The Jungle Swamp will come out in the fall.  It was one of the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes that has never been reissued by Revell/Monogram.   Given that Revell is currently putting out many of the PS kits, this one might do pretty well.  It is difficult to find an original kit with all the parts intact.

Rommel's Rod is most likely delayed until 2008 due to additional design work.  Captain Action will be a limited edition available at just a few outlets.   It is still on track for summer.

The Seaview will be 39" long and based on the television series sub, with 4 windows in the bow and the Flying Sub bay.   Details will include a Flyig Sub, Diving Bell, detailed control room.   The kit may even include small scale figures.   Box art will be by Polar Lights favorite Chris White.   The Seaview is scheduled for September, but it would be reasonable to expect delays.   The suggested retail price has been raised to 109.95.

Moebious is looking to develop new kits based on all the Irwin Allen series:  Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants.  Any new kits will not happen until 2008.  Virtually all subjects are underconsideration, but there were some strong hints of a LIS Pod and Chariot as well as a new Flying Sub.    Moebius is also in discussions with a number of other companies for kit licesning, but nothing is finalized.

Expect a special kit at Wonderfest!
