Building the Millennium Falcon by Agatha Chamberlain

When I first saw the people at a local hobby shop unloading the model of the Millennium Falcon, I quickly borrowed the price money from a friend and bought it. I took the kit home and started to study the instructions and the model. The model was molded in a light gray plastic with clear parts for the cannon bay windows, cockpit window, engine panels, and two other parts that are not visible unless you really look for them. Why they are used, I really don't know. I didn't notice the window in, between the loading mandibles in the movie.

Frank Winspur and Moebius Models has released a 1/8 scale rendition of the classic monster. Molded in light grey, this big kit comes complete with a base, wall, cobra, mummy and sarcophagus. The detail is amazing; all the way from the sarcophagus lid to the likeness of Boris Karloff.

Moebius Models Jupiter 2 Sneak Peak

Gary Kerr posted the following information at Hobbytalk and has given me permission to post on the CultTVman site.
Since Frank Winspur has officially announced the Jupiter 2 model at WonderFest, I can tell you some details about the kit and show a few photos. A few factoids:
The studio set fit almost perfectly inside a 52 ft saucer, so that's what I used when I designed the model. The 1/35 scale saucer is a hair under 18" in diameter, which is the largest size that Moebius' budget could handle. (The price of tooling goes WAY up if you go any larger, and the kit would become too expensive for the mass market.)

The Mole by Dave Ruther

I always wanted a decent looking Mole, using the correct parts and without having to have a paper cone for the drill bit! The first thing I did was set about trying to track down all of the parts, made easier by ebay! Most of the parts are now vintage, with the exception of the Girder Bridge which is now made by a company called Dapol. So, I had to obtain 2 girder bridges, 2 Aurora B58 Hustlers, 1 Revell ‘Everything is Go’, 1 Faller B14/B15 Café and one Aurora Freedom Fighter for some of the decals. The one thing that is impossible to find is the wheels and tracks, which came from a Vickers Vigor toy. These would have to be made from scratch.

Ted Koch's Cutaway Seaview

I built the Aurora Plastics model of the Seaview and played with the Remco toy Seaview. But, the model and the toy were not adequate and I was looking for more. I started illustrating the action scenes with oil pastels. Through these pictures I could see a pattern emerging that helped show some continuity with cabin placement. Boy was I fooled! I decided to create a five foot cross section model of the Seaview. There was no debate; I chose the revised second season version.

The Seaview from Moebius Models - review by George Belknap

The fourth kit from Moebius Models is a doozy. A 39 inch long replica of the Seaview. Pretty gutsy move from Frank Winspur. None of the big model companies would have tackled this subject. This had to be something of a massive undertaking for such a young company. God bless them, I hope they make a nice little profit from this kit.

Building the Space:1999 Excape Pod by Bill Early

This is how I scratch built an escape pod from the episode The Last Enemy. This was an alien craft and made it's one time showing in this episode. I had just recently watched this episode and while I was rooting through my building supplies, I came across some plastic Easter eggs. One thing leads to another, and so we begin.

Accurizing the Hasbro Titan AE Valkyrie by Scott Copeland

I loved "Titan A.E.", and it was one of the first movies my son showed
real interest in, and I wanted a replica of the ship Valkyrie. I was
surprised to find nobody made a garage kit of it, but Hasbro made a big
(18" long!) gaudy colored toy with "battle lights and sounds". I
ordered one cheap off the E-place, and while it has a action figure
"cockpit" and some goofy looking "landing gear", the basic shape and
proportions were correct.

ERTL's stand is uninteresting (as are most ERTL stands). I discarded the kit base and planned on a desert base with a single mounting point. After careful consideration and weighing all the pros and cons, I decided to mount the kit under the rear of the port engine. This meant the pod would be kept aloft on the plastic kit cables (which each came in two parts) and the starboard engine weight would be carried by the clear purple energy binders.
